Obama Starting With Some Good Promises

Published by ragged316 at 6:05 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Obama made a special appearance at a climate change summit in California yesterday, vowing quick action to do such things as curbing emissions, international talks, and linked climate change to the economy and national security. This is much more than President Bush has done over the years, and I would like to see how far Obama can go. He does seem to have a plan to move private corporations to a greener world, which he believes will also create more jobs in the U.S. The only thing I am skeptical of, and this is nothing I can blame Obama for, is how the current economic problems will hinder him. Making climate change a top priority is good, but the crisis the economy is in is huge and getting bigger. It does not just influence private businesses any longer, but even schools, hospitals, whole towns. Lyndon B. Johnson was on the path to becoming an excellent leader for the United States, but then Vietnam just exploded in his face. Will the economy do the same for Obama and his just promises?

Word. Orgs like greenpeace are really pressing Obama to be true to his environmental ideals and push sustainability issues because they are the key to a fuctioning and non-destructive society. The economy is in tough times right now, for sure, but while it’s tough we may as well fight for positive change in whatever way we can instead of just criticizing and complaining. Go green, for real. every little bit makes SUCH a big difference. reusable bags, recycling, supporting solar/wind, etc.
